Rotary International & Literacy

Greetings Rotarians !

As we all know, Rotary International Presidents have been including Literacy as one of their focal points for a number of years.
Adopt-a-Library is an excellent program that will assist you in completing your club's literacy component. It is as simple and as inexpensive as you want it to be. It is adaptable to what your club is doing now and will generate new ideas for you and assist you in providing reading skills to children and books to your local libraries.
I have been involved with AAL as a corporate sponsor, Rotarian and now volunteer with AAL. I believe in this program and urge all of you to get involved by partnering with your local police and library and joining AAL.

As Rotary International President ( 2008-2009) D.K. Lee stated "In planning how your club, and each one of you, can Make Dreams Real this year, I ask you to consider the millions of children who never even have the chance to dream."

Let us give those children a chance to Dream.

The attached letter from the Nova Scotia Minister of Education, Karen Casey, gives us a good indication that AAL is accepted and endorsed as a program that will benefit children.

AAL is a perfect fit with Rotary International's literacy goals.

Adopt-a-Library is being recognized as a valued program by ministers of the Nova Scotia Government.
Attached is a copy of a letter from the Honourable Judy Streatch, Minister of Community Services.
